Commuters have been guaranteed Sydney’s buses are safe despite concerns about the brakes on the so-called "bendy" buses.
Drivers claim one of the buses continued-on for 60 metres after the brakes were applied, while another apparently ran through a pedestrian crossing.
Shadow Minister Gladys Berejiklian says the drivers' concerns are being ignored.
“If driver concerns have been ignored for nine months this needs to be addressed immediately.”
“These buses aren’t safe – they simply shouldn’t be on the road,” she said.
“The State Government has an obligation to drivers, to commuters and to anyone else using the roads.”
But Transport Minister John Watkins insists the vehicles aren't allowed on the roads unless they're working properly.
“We will not allow a bus to leave the depot unless we are assured that it is in fact safe.”
“Drivers have brought this issue to our concern over the last 18 months or so and State Transit has been working very carefully and closely,” he said.
