Lower income households won't suffer to carbon trading: Wong

24/06/2008 2:30:00 PM.  | John Barrington

Fears that households will suffer under a future Carbon Trading Scheme, will be addressed by the federal government.

A new report shows Australia is on track to meet its Kyoto target of reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050,

The government says more needs to be done, with a 1.6 per cent increase in green house gas emissions over the last year.

Big companies will be penalised under a new emissions trading scheme penalties if they over-pollute.

It could send electricity and petrol prices through the roof.

But Climate Change Minister Penny Wong says households will be compensated for any additional costs.

The Penny Wongs of this World obviously have not got the foggiest when it comes to understanding business. If business has to pay for emissions they will have to compensate for the losses. This will take the form of higher prices or cost cutting-which would include the loss of jobs. A 60% reduction in emissions by 2050 could be meaningless because no one knows what the big polluters like the US,China and India will be doing by 2050.

I am sad that the government needs to grab headlines with empty claims. First, Liberal were already on track(if you subscribe to the Co2 debate) second, i dont think lowering emmissions is going to stop squat..this is a natural cycle of the earth and all the carry on in the world will not stop it. Third, what is the point in taxing Aust to the max when the major countries dont want to play and finally Rudd, or his ministers, are not intelligent enough to run this debate...God help us all!!!!

This is not about Global warming it is just another way of taxing us.The only hope we have is that the "deep thinkers of Australia" who voted these clowns in wake up in a couple of years and vote them right back out.
