Opposition leader Barry O’Farrell has overtaken Morris Iemma as preferred Premier in the latest Newspoll, as Iguanagate and the power-sell off take their toll.
According to the poll Labor is at the lowest level since 1996, with 39 per cent of voters in favour of Mr O’Farrell and 32 per cent preferring Mr Iemma.
It’s the first time a NSW opposition leader has led his opponent in 16 years.
The result is expected to fuel speculation over the future of Mr Iemma who has recently come under attack over the Iguanagate scandal and power privitisation.
Deputy Opposition Leader Jillian Skinner says it's no surprise.
“I think it will spur Barry O’Farrell and the team to work even harder to highlight Labor’s failures and propose solutions to the state’s problems.”
