Opposition hot and cold on climate change

Climate change has dominated Question Time in parliament, as both side trade blows over their greenhouse policy ahead of a crucial report coming out next week.

Ross Garnaut's long awaited paper on climate change will be released next week, and it's likely to recommend petrol be included in a carbon trading scheme.

Last year the Coalition was all for the idea but now, knowing it will send up the price of fuel, has backed right off.

There is also division on when emissions trading should be introduced, with the Government's deadline set at 2010.

Labor's Anthony Albanese says the Opposition is all over the place on the issue.

"The Shadow Minister has at least six positions. Six positions he's put forward on climate change. More positions than the Kama Sutra."

However the Rudd Government is under fire as well, refusing to spell out its own stance on whether transport emissions will be taxed.

Albanese is a disgrace. Who is running the country? Does it really matter what position(s) opposition takes? You are simply so out of touch that you will say anything to distract people from focusing the moronic wall to wall labor govts' incompetence! By all means include petrol in the carbon emission trading scheme - and watch (literally) the emergence of another "recession we had to have", which is a patented labor govt trademark!

The ALP don't have a policy, and are asking the conservatives to hand them one. So that Rudd signs Kyoto, then tries to water it down by not making taxes to charge more for petrol et al. How does one oppose wishy washy? The conservatives have shown their hand. They are willing to take practical, reasonable measures to prevent pollution. ALP proclaim the myth of carbon caused climate change, but can do nothing to prevent their myth from occurring, offring nothing more than a scare.

Turnbull modified his position simply because of the radical change in the price of oil. That is a sensible thing to do. Rudd is NOT sensible. Albanese is a fool. Swan is not worth talking about. Parliament is better with Gillard away.

If the 'opposition' had their way Australia would be well and truly screwed, not that they had any intent on getting re-elected. That's the Liberal Party mantra. Throw it and let someone else take the blame and point the finger for the next three years. According to them 'climate change was a myth' and they only jumped on the band wagon because if they had not they would have faced extinction like some kind of spotted swamp frog. Don't let global warming get in the way of profits!

Yes Sean, and Labor could have saved the dinosauers too; by encouraging global warming.

Maybe the coallition are simply an indication of the fact Australians themselves can not agree on the science of climate change. I personally dont think CO2 emmissions have got anything to do with the change in climate. As for Rudd, he would be so frustrated because how can you steal the oppositions policy when the opposition is divided in their opinions, as are most Australians. Rudd may have to think for himself here, something he is simply not use to doing; after all they are the government!

Prior to the last Federal elections John Howard begged Australia not to commit to the Kyoto Agreement claiming that Australia was not the villains when it comes to carbon emissions and those countries like America and China were the worst offenders. Kevin Rudd and his Labor cronies ignored the advice of John Howard and Australia's best interest while embarking on a mission of self promotion to sign the Kyoto Agreement. Penny Wong was asked prior to leaving to sign the agreement, whether or not she had a plan to put to the Kyoto movement and she replied," No ". (At least she was honest). Today we learn, thanks to your National political correspondent, Steve Lewis, that the Rudd Government (that’s the Australian taxpayers) faces a massive payout of more that $1.6 million a year to Aust. Families to offset energy, fuel and new emission trading system (ETS). And an annual payment of $500 Million alone to protect the poor and the aged. Is there any wonder Morris Iemma is trying

What Rudd and Labor have to explain to the people of Australia is: What is the percentage of man made emissions in the total greenhouse gas effect? What is Australia’s share of that percentage? Will Australia’s effort save the World if major polluters do not participate in the Carbon reduction scheme? Kyoto has failed to deliver because Countries like the USA, China and India were not part of the reduction regime-so instead of grandstanding Labor should join with all the 'believer’ Countries to try and convince the ‘non believers’.

Does Malcontent Spinbulldung always change his position this much? Brengun must be aiming for the Olympic Gold in cheap and irresponsible politically expedient posturing. Let's face it, when petrol hit $1 a Liter they just sat on their hands, and political party that changes their position on a whim could never be trusted. Was Howard wrong when he said that reducing the excise would do nothing? Just take the GST off fuel, that would do more but really the price needs to be halved, 5c, so what?

Rudd is a hypocrite and full of inconstancies. Two that come to mind, on the Global Warming front, are the Nuclear Power issue and the blow torch to the belly of the Oil producing Nations. Nuclear power will be a lot cleaner than Coal and therefore will contribute to the reduction in carbon emissions. As far as wanting to increase the production of crude and hence petrol he is advocating an increase in emissions because cheaper petrol will result in increased consumption. This shows that Rudds concern for Global Warming is entirely political as he uses it to try and wedge the Coalition.
