In a bizarre incident in France, 16 people have been injured after live bullets were used instead of blank ones during a Special Forces open day.
A marine parachute regiment was staging the public demonstration when 16 people were struck by the bullets.
Of the 16 people struck, 15 of them were civilians – three people, including a child are in a critical condition
One soldier has been detained - there's still no word on why the wrong ammunition was loaded into weapons.
A regional official, Bernard Lemaire, told France 3 radio, investigators believed the deadly ammunition was loaded by mistake.
"The question being asked is 'did the soldier engage in a criminal act or not?'," Lemaire said. "For now, no one can answer that, but the theory being worked on is one of error."
