Television personality Bert Newton has added another achievement to a career that has spanned 50 years, being named the 2008 Victorian of the Year.

Newton, who turns 70 this month, is a four-time Gold Logie winner and was King of Moomba in 1978.

The Young Victorian of the Year award was won by Daniel Adams, who was instrumental in organising the 2005 concert for the Make Poverty History campaign, the largest youth-run event ever held in Australia.

The awards were presented by the Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser, at a Victoria Day Council Awards ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall.

I just wanted to wish Bert Newton a very happy 70th Birthday for today - 23rd July. He is an inspiration to all across Australia and i love watching him on tv. He always puts smile on my face as his sense on humour and personality is a true reflection of the nice person he really is. Over the years i have enjoyed watching him on tv. He did a fantastic job on the Logies this year too, a job well done!!!! Have a great day Bert, you really deserve it!!! Best wishes Lo-Anne Delle-Vergin
