A transgender man who became pregnant is expected to give birth within the next few weeks.
Thomas Beatie, born Tracy Lagondino, shocked the world earlier this year when he announced he was pregnant, despite undergoing a sex change 10 years ago.
Then 24-year-old, Beatie had his breasts removed and started taking testosterone, but kept his female reproductive organs because his wife Nancy had a hysterectomy and the couple hoped to one day have children.
But Mr Beatie stopped taking the bimonthly testorsterone injections, therapy that had been underway for eight years, when the couple decided to get pregnant.
He said his body "regulated itself" after four months, allowing him to conceive using sperm from a bank and a syringe.
He said stopping the hormone therapy was not a decision he took lightly, but he is thrilled with the result.
"I am so lucky to have such a loving, supportive wife.
"I will be my daughter's father, and Nancy will be her mother. We will be a family."
Surprisingly this was not the first time Thomas had fallen pregnant. The couple's last attempt saw him pregnant with triplets, however it was an ectopic pregnancy and all the embryos were lost in the resulting surgery.
After the couple's recent baby shower, Thomas revealed that while he is excited about the approaching birth, not everyone has responded positively to the news.
"Receptionists have laughed at us. Friends and family have been unsupportive - most of Nancy's family doesn't even know I'm transgender."
