The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann say they'll never give up looking for her, as Portuguese police prepare to close the case.
Fourteen months after Maddie disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz 14 months ago, just short of her fourth birthday, police say they've filed their final report, and it's now up to the Portuguese prosecutor's office to decide whether to close the inquiry for good.
Nobody has ever been formally charged with Maddie's abduction.
Her doctor parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, were named as formal suspects, but their spokesman says that status should now be lifted, and the files handed over to the family's private investigators.
But Publisher of the Portugal News Paul Luckman says doubts will remain as to whether they were involved.
“Whatever the police say, whatever they drop, suspicions tend to go on for quite a long while as people have their own thoughts and ideas,” Luckman said.
“Until this all goes quiet and people have the chance to forget about the whole case, which is probably what the majority of people would now like to do, that will remain.”
