'Theses are the longest days': Tiger struggles in recovery mode

4/07/2008 8:21:00 AM.  |

Tiger Woods has no idea when he will be able to start rehabilitation upon his left knee following surgery, saying today that "these are the longest days" when it comes to his recovery.

Woods posted a message on his website as the opening round of the US PGA Tour event he would normally host, the National, teed off at Congressional Golf Club in nearby Maryland.

"I'm wearing a full leg brace and will be on crutches for a few weeks," Woods said.

"To be honest, I'm not sure when my rehabilitation will start. I can't put weight on my leg yet.

"These are the longest days - it feels like a 38-hour day."

Woods had the surgery last month after limping his way to an epic triumph at the US Open, winning his 14th major title in a playoff over Rocco Mediate despite intense pain at times.

"I'm not sure how I got through the week, but it was definitely the biggest win of my pro career," Woods said Thursday.

Woods announced last month that he will not play again this year as he tries to recover from the operation. He missed a planned event last week in Michigan and was unable to travel to Washington for host duties at the event his foundation operates.

"Obviously, it's very disappointing that I'm not there," Woods said.

"Being laid up at home and watching on TV is no fun, but those are the cards right now, and I just have to deal with it."
