World Youth Day protestors have been told they could be fined $5,000 if they hand out condoms to Catholic pilgrims.

Civil Libertarians have already revealed they plan to challenge the special police powers for the event, which allow officers to arrest and fine people for "annoying" behaviour.

Protestors claim they're being intimidated from making their point heard.

The controversial police powers will be challenged in court.

Rachel Evans from the No-To-Pope-Coalition says protestors won't be intimidated by the powers.

“We would like the state government to appeal these laws, we would like the state government to come out and say that we have a right to protest.

“We would like that statement to come out in the next couple of days, sooner rather than later.”

Yeah sure we all have a right to protest but it is a matter of interpretation as to what is a legitimate, peaceful protest and what is an invasion of someone else’s privacy and beliefs. There are all sorts of minorities that are fighting for recognition and that’s fine and they deserve public support but they must not do it by insulting other sections of the community.

Why is it illegal to offend catholics but not illegal for them to offend anyone else. I find the Pope offensive, why should he not be arrested for that? Are catholics really better than everyone else, or do they just think they are? The pro-lifers are offensive, how do they get away with it? What is the NSW doing about this? What is the Federal opposition doing about this?

Seriously, who cares? I mean... the pope says no to contraception and practicing a homosexual lifestyle... if you think that's bad you should see what the Dalai Lama thinks! Funny thing is I've never seen protests against the Dalai Lama. Here's another thought... if you don't like it well... don't be a Catholic. The reformation was hundreds of years ago so it's not like you're going to be burned at the stake or anything. Meh... live and let live I say...
