David Hussey marked his one-day international debut with a fine half century today - if only he'd known it at the time.
After failing to score in his first two outings for Australia in Twenty20 cricket, Hussey added a run-a-ball 50 in a century partnership with Andrew Symonds in St Kitts today, but because of a scoreboard error was unable to raise his bat in celebration of the milestone.
The board at Warner Park had the 30-year-old out for 49 when he was dismissed chasing quick runs late in Australia's innings.
It wasn't until midway through the West Indies reply that Hussey discovered he had actually posted a half century on debut - and by that stage his bat was well and truly back in the dressing room.
"He found out when he was fielding," captain Michael Clarke said.
"Cameron White walked around the ground and said 'congratulations, you got a half century today' and he said 'yeah Whitey, whatever mate' ... he had no idea."
