Protect families from Rudd: Nelson

5/07/2008 3:00:00 PM.  | Amie Meehan

There are calls for low income households to be protected from high petrol and electricity prices under climate change reforms.

The Garnaut Report recommended an extra tax on fuel and little or no compensation for the country's power stations.

But federal opposition leader Brendan Nelson said Australian families could not afford to be slugged any further.

"Australian families are making choices about whether they'll put another $10 of petrol in the car or buy a leg of lamb, that's what it's got down to," Mr Nelson said.

"This is a very hard year for Australia and its going to get harder thanks to (prime minister) Rudd's approach to these issues."

The great betrayal of the Australian Working family-all because of an unproven ideological, pseudo scientific belief.

If the Libs hadn't added 10% GST to fuel it would help, If the Libs hadn't invaded Iraq, it would help. If the Libs hadn't let the inflation horse bolt, it would have helped. Now they say anything to try to get support, this is desperation politics by losers. Hopefully whoever replaces Downer will have leadership potential, that's what Australia really needs, an opposition leader with credibility.

If the working families cannot buy a leg of lamb for lower than say $10 Rudd is to be blamed, for he has failed to put downward pressure on inflation as promised.

Krudd says we, the poor families will be compensated for price hikes? Yeah right, it's so easy to remember the last time i was compensated by the government, after they added Taxes to our struggling existance. NEVER! If they're taking from me they wont give it back, if they give anything back its name will be "PITANCE", what they take will be called " Financial ruin". Lyn, Nelson gets his lamb from the same place as KRUDD, the place of NO IDEA!!!
