Jamie's foul dinners are in bad taste: RSPCA

7/07/2008 12:33:00 PM.  | Annika Burgess
Jamie Oliver’s new television show, which is airing on Channel 10 later this month has been slammed by the RSPCA.

Episodes of Jamie’s Fowl Dinners contain demonstrations of how animals are treated on battery farms, in an attempt to raise awareness of cruelty to animals.

Although the celebrity chef’s efforts have had the opposite affect – Oliver’s display of animal slaughtering has been labelled immoral by the RSPCA.

In the show, the 32-year-old “licensed slaughterman” electrocutes a chicken and drains blood from its neck, and also suffocates chicks with carbon dioxide.

The RSPCA has urged Oliver to stop his public demonstrations, saying inflicting pain and suffering on animals isn’t the way to go to make people aware.

Channel 10 has defended the show’s content saying Oliver is trained in what he does, and that the program comes with a warning and an M rating.

People enjoy eating eggs from battery hens and chickens five weeks old but forced to grow faster than their bones can carry them and get crippled. As long as they don't see it! Being "legal" does not mean humane!

If the RSPCA gave a dam about animals they would be involved in destroying cats and non working dogs, and foxes. They are like Greenpeace, looking for photo opportunities to help them raise money to feather their own nests. So much of what the RSPCA go on about is insane.

Well done Jamie for bringing this sad issue to everyone's attention. I watched your program on channel 10 last night and I think you did a brilliant job. Maybe now more Australian consumers will now buy free range products. One would think you would have the RSPCA's support in this though!

Good on ya Jamie! Got your point over. The only one that didn't get it was RSPCA! I'm converted.
