Body found on train tracks on NSW Central Coast

8/07/2008 6:43:00 AM.  |

The New South Wales Central Coast train line has been closed after a train hit a body on the tracks near Lake Macquarie.

Police say the train struck a body lying on the tracks about two o'clock this morning (AEST), 300 metres east of Teralba Rail Station.

The Newcastle and Central Coast line has been closed in both directions, while police recover the body and investigate.

The tracks are not expected to reopen for several hours.

CityRail says a limited train service is operating in both directions from Newcastle to Wyong, with buses supplementing some train services between Broadmeadow and Morisset.

Paul Ray from Cityrail says there are bus services in place but they're limited.

“We do apologise for the delays, they are absolutely unavoidable, police and emergency services are in attendance, and at this stage we’re looking to clear the line possibly by 7am.”
