Moves to head-off a potentially crippling rail strike during World Youth Day will be launched today, with the Government taking its case to the Industrial Relations Commission.
The rail strike planned for next Thursday has the potential to derail World Youth Day with hundreds of thousands of pilgrims relying on public transport.
The rail union launched the action claiming its negotiations over pay have been stalled, leaving them with no other option.
But premiere Morris Iemma has expressed his outrage, labeling the plan industrial terrorism.
Mr Iemma has told 2GB’s Alan Jones, the state won’t be held to ransom.
“If they’re unhappy, and they said they aren’t then they can approach the minister, his door is always open…
“If they think that they can damage the state’s reputation, and as a result push the government into changing the offer, they’re wrong.”
The dispute goes before the Industrial Relations Commission at 10 o'clock this morning.
