Garnaut becomes a climate change cartoon superhero

9/07/2008 8:11:00 AM.  |
Climate change guru Ross Garnaut has been turned into a cartoon to try and help explain his message.

Progressive lobby group GetUp has transformed Professor Garnaut, an economist, into a cartoon hero.

Dressed in an orange T-Shirt with a white G on it, Professor Garnaut stars in the three minute online animation, which seeks to sum up his 600-page draft report released last week.

“The money raised from the pollution permits should be used to help low-income households, and invested in renewable energy,” the cartoon says.

Prof Garnaut is the federal government's chief climate change adviser, and his report looks into the impact of global warming on Australia, and what should be done to tackle the problem.

GetUp executive director Brett Solomon says the cartoon picks out Professor Garnaut's main points and pushes politicians to act on his recommendations.

A cartoon is all that that report is good for. It won't be of use to Australia.

Who cares what GETUP thinks or says. Tim Brunero is a member and fan and this organisation gets elevated treatment becuase it enlists all its mates in the media to give it attention.

Isn't it extraordinary that Ross Garnaut the climate change guru/adviser has no real credentials on climate change but is in actual fact an economist. I guess this is a follow-on from Mr Al Gore who is also considered an expert in climate change but turns out that he actually is nothing more than an actor and a bad one at that. I guess that it won't be long before Mr Ross Garnaut will be in line for a movie deal and a well earned Oscar.Mr Kevin Rudd might even get a lead role as the show pony.

Good try, but as can be seen by the GREEDISGOODITES comments on this website, the remaining few anti Climate Change people are die hard, they have a vested interest in pollution and business as usual, and they are prepared to destroy the world for personal gain. A cartoon will help explain it to kids, but morons are tougher. It's like the problem of explaining that the Earth is not flat, for some people there brain just isn't big enough, or their belief systems are too ingrained.

Interesting ploy turning the God-like message of man made climate change into a cartoon. It tells me that we are all considered to be slow witted children. However this "message" is still BS and junk science.

Has anyone noticed how GetUp!'s campaign language mimics that published in the Communist Party of Australia publication, 'Australia’s Path to Socialism' (1952). With "the Environment" as the new religion for the selfish and godless, it's hardly surprising that Garnaut is the latest 'religious' icon being popularised to fool the ignorant and fearful with lies passed off as facts. Garnaut is an unwitting puppet in a charade that is fast becoming an antipodean socialist menace promoted by GetUp!

I believe that our polution is a problem for the environment and everyone on this planet. There must be energy unity in the environment and what is taken out must be returned to the overall system but the language and "science" of global warming is not the right way to achieve this balance. Lets see the real science of polution and global energy being displayed in the open so that people can see the real solutions rather than having a marketing solution that does little.

cartoons are a powerful and subtle way to disseminate information to the masses. whilst getup's idea of using cartoons is a fantastic one, it's execution is poor for it lacks the essential element of a good cartoon... humour. remember, a cartoon has got to be funny! for a hilarious and whacky 'global warming adventure', check out malaysia's finest environmental webcomics i.e. www.d-impossibles.com, now that's a cartoon!
