Gyngell claims ratings victory for Nine

The double whammy of Underbelly and Gordon Ramsay has given Nine a mid-year ratings win, boss David Gyngell has announced.

After a shaky few years following the death of Nine's elder statesman Kerry Packer, and the questionable appointment of Eddie McGuire as CEO, the ratings were a reflection of the confused period.

But since Gyngell has returned to the helm, things have taken a turn for the better.

"At Nine we take absolutley nothing for granted. That's our policy. Our opposition is formidable and I respect them," he told News Limited. "But our fortunes lie in our hands and the chanllenging task ahead is to consolidate this strong first half growth."

However, Channel Seven remained steadily dominant in breakfast television and news, once a flagship for the Nine Network. Channel Ten also claimed the scalp of four top ten shows in the highly coveted youth market.
