Dhoni's Angels: Cricket star gets all-female police guard

15/07/2008 5:43:00 PM.  | AAP
India cricket superstar Mahendra Singh Dhoni is used to being surrounded by the ladies.

Now it will become a permanent fixture in his life after police in his hometown of Ranchi assigned an all-female group of body guards to keep unwanted admirers away.

The decision to give Dhoni, India's limited-overs cricket captain, the new security detail comes after two recent incidents in which female fans tried to throw themselves on the heart-throb, Ranchi police chief M. S. Bhatia said.

Bhatia said the female police had been given special training to protect Dhoni from unwanted advances.

Dhoni, known for his good looks and swashbuckling style on the cricket pitch, is one of the biggest celebrities in cricket-crazy India, endorsing everything from hair gel to motorcycles.

He has already been given "Z-class" security - the highest level - from the state, usually reserved for the prime minister and other senior political figures.

Dear Reader, M. S. Dhoni is a lucky man, but jokes aside, India has changed so much, especially the ladies. I am not sure whether this is for the good, but I suppose the world has changed, and India is no exception in this regard. Yours Faithfully, M. R. Somasunderam
