South Korea cracks down on dog meat

15/07/2008 7:40:00 PM.  |
Officials in South Korea's capital have launched their first health inspection of dog meat restaurants.

City officials are taking samples from 15 restaurants, to see whether they contain heavy metals or other harmful substances.

There are about 530 dog meat restaurants in Seoul - and they're technically illegal.

There are no hygiene regulations on the slaughter and trade of dog meat because dogs are not classed as livestock.

Health officials are concerned about contamination of dog meat, but not that they are eating "Man's best friend"! If the dog meat restaurants are technically illegal, why are they operation? Dogs do so much for humans, and many people find the companionship of dogs better than human companionship. Where would rural communities be without working dogs? The next step to eating "best friends" is cannibalism! People forget that meat originates from warm-blooded and sentient animals.
