Murder suspect Mick Gatto has demanded police charge him over the underworld murders of Victor Peirce and Frank Benvenuto or leave him alone.
Mr Gatto is a suspect in the killings but he says police are yet to come up with any evidence against him.
"If they're going to come and arrest me, come out and do it," he told the Herald Sun newspaper today. "I'll come up trumps, I promise."
Mr Gatto said the Purana anti-gangland taskforce had pressured two suspects in Peirce's murder to implicate him, with one suspect who had been in custody for months given a series of offers to name him.
"It's just wrong. They shouldn't be allowed to do it," he said.
"There's been an agenda with me for a long time. It's why they're squeezing these blokes. Go out and get evidence."
Benvenuto was killed in May 2000 while Peirce was shot dead in his car in Port Melbourne in May 2002.
Court documents revealed in March outlined an informer's claims that Mr Gatto ordered Benvenuto's death and helped set up Peirce's murder, the Herald Sun said.
Benvenuto's brother Vince, 55, is on remand charged with Peirce's murder and another man, the un-named alleged getaway driver, has also been charged over the murder.
Police say Andrew "Benji" Veniamin, killed by Mr Gatto in 2004, is thought to have been the trigger man in the Peirce killing.
Mr Gatto was later acquitted of murdering Veniamin, on the grounds of self defence.
In a letter, Mr Gatto's legal team, Grigor Lawyers, has accused Purana of spreading innuendo about Mr Gatto despite his willingness to co-operate with police.
Police did not comment yesterday.
Police have offered a $100,000 reward for information to help them solve the Peirce killing.
