2GB broadcaster Alan Jones has broadcast his last show before taking time off to be treated for prostate cancer.

The 67-year-old is scheduled to have an operation to remove the cancer at Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital on Saturday.

He'll spend Thursday and Friday resting.

Jones, who has vowed not to give up on his radio career, is expected to be off air for just two to three weeks while he recuperates.

He'll be replaced by regular stand-in Jason Morrison.

"It will be business as usual on the show, and Alan has been very supportive and encouraging." Morrison told LIVENEWS.com.au.

Today he used his last morning on air before the break to urge men to get themselves checked out for prostate cancer.

"Men are, by and large, hopeless when they become their own doctors," he said.

"[They say] 'I'll be all right', or 'I don't need to go', or 'I'm frightened of what he might tell me'. Head up, shoulders back and go for it."

When making the announcement about his illness earlier this month Jones was stoic about his condition.

"We don't do dying here" he told a packed media conference at 2GB's Pyrmont studios.
