ICC to hold security meeting on Pakistan tour

18/07/2008 12:29:00 PM.  |
The International Cricket Council will hold a security briefing on Sunday for the eight countries taking part in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

The briefing in Dubai comes after speculation that the September tournament could be moved to Sri Lanka if the ICC fails to convince teams they will be safe in Pakistan.

"The ICC will not indulge in speculation and, at this stage, the tournament will take place in Pakistan, as scheduled," the sport's ruling body said in a statement today.

Defending champion Australia, England and New Zealand are all scheduled to play but their governments advise citizens against visiting Pakistan.

India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa and host Pakistan are also taking part.

In one recent high-profile incident, a suicide bombing on July 7 killed 15 people in Karachi, one of the host cities, along with Lahore and Rawalpindi.
