Police crack interstate drug network

18/07/2008 6:22:00 PM.  |
Police say they have cracked and dismantled a significant distribution network that was bringing drugs into South Australia from NSW.

In the past few weeks, 11 people have been arrested during raids in both states, SA Detective Inspector Lyn Dunstan said in Adelaide today.

About 700 grams of methamphetamine and about 1,000 pills had been seized during the raids, he said.

"These seizures have prevented over 8,000 street deals of illicit drugs reaching the street of Adelaide," Det Insp Dunstan said.

"I'm confident we have severely dismantled and disrupted that network."

Det Insp Dunstan said information suggested there were loose links to outlaw bikies in the distribution network that was shipping the drugs on planes, buses and in cars.

Those arrested in SA include a 65-year-old man from Lakemba, in Sydney's southwest, who will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on August 15 charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, 225 grams of methamphetamine.

A 28-year-old man, a temporary resident of Australia, was with the Lakemba man when they were both arrested at an Adelaide bus station on June 19.

He has been remanded in custody to an undisclosed date.

Three Victorian men were also arrested on June 19, near Goulburn in NSW, and charged with trafficking a controlled drug after allegedly being found with 450 grams of methamphetamine.

A 43-year-old of Kurralta Park, allegedly found with more than 1,000 pills at Adelaide airport on July 11, has been charged with trafficking and bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court some time in October.

SA police are travelling to NSW to seek the extradition of a 29-year-old woman from Sefton, in NSW, so she can be charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
