A British multi-millionaire has published details of his STG3.7 million ($A7.62 million) divorce settlement on the internet to stop people gossiping about his marriage breakdown.
Frustrated at being called "tight" and a "ruthless bastard", advertising executive Gary Dean set up a website to reveal all the financial details of his divorce from his wife of 20 years, Helen.
She received a cash lump sum of STG3.7 million ($A7.62 million) and was allowed to keep all her diamond jewellery, a Mercedes and an Audi convertible plus her "cherished" number plates 7HD and 10HD.
Dean also agreed to make annual payments of STG15,000 ($A30,880) for each of their four children and cover their private school fees.
"Over the course of the last year I have been subject to gossip about my divorce, some of it just silly tittle-tattle, and some of it malicious," he wrote.
"I don't even know where they started. It's not important how they did - what's important is to clear up once and for all what did happen so that silly or malicious whispers can end.
"I've decided that instead of allowing the rumour-mill to continue churning out nonsense, I'd just set out the actual facts to stop it."
The couple, who lived near Preston in Lancashire, split in 2005 and their divorce was finalised in July last year.
Dean, who has a new partner, said he did not blame his wife for spreading rumours about him.
"I wanted to put the matter to bed once and for all," he wrote on his website.
"It may not stop their tongues wagging, but at least they can stop telling lies about me."
