Aussie wins stage as Evans loses yellow

21/07/2008 11:09:00 AM.  | Dominic Brock
Frank Schleck has taken the yellow jersey off Cadel Evans after Australian Simon Gerrans claimed the biggest win of his career in the thrilling 15th stage of the Tour de France in the Alps.

Gerrans, from the Credit Agricole team, earned his maiden win of the race in the 183km stage – the first of three in the Alps.

He was one of four men who broke away from the pack to build a good lead on the pack, beating Spain’s Egoi Martinez, American Danny Pate and Jose Luis Arrieta.

Schleck finished nine seconds ahead of Evans after starting the stage one second behind the Australian.

The race is now wide open, with five riders within one minute of leader Schleck.
