Troubled teenagers are being threatened with night-time curfews under a new NSW policing program.

For now the program is a trial – teenagers in the New England, Campbeltown, and Mt Druitt areas will be brought into line under tough new rules.

Instead of young criminals getting a slap on the wrist or thrown into jail, they’ll be given 12 months to sort themselves out and be given their own parole officer to help.

They’ll also have to abide by a night time curfew, and could be banned from seeing certain friends.

The $1.4 million Youth Conduct Orders program is an Australian first, and will apply to teenagers aged 14 to 17.

You're doing it again. First punishing parents from parenting and administering reprimands when needed and now, taking over the corrective approach to delinquency. Instead - support parenting judgements and allow adequate punishment to be carried out instantly by the family instead of pussy footing around highly volatile youth with over taxed testosterons by outsiders who have no idea of the upbringing involved and whose sole purpose would be to fill in a job.

I fail to see how this would be Policed effectively, given Mr/mrs parole officer will be in bed at 8pm? how does one stop the mingling in tennacy blocks? Typical Govt. no ideas worth the money they demand! The issues could be solved by creating work for some and decent Education for others. I dont mean classroooms either. Usefull training to develope and provide an outcome for the kids.

More jobs for the boys in Govt. Maybe we should be educating children in secondary school on the responsibilties of parenthood. Parenting classes for young parents might be worthwhile too, and less Govt interference in our homes. Let parents parent, and if they dont, then charge them. When I was a child my parents could have been jailed if I didnt attend school, bring back truancy officers. How come we have so many crimes being committed by under 10 yr olds, where are their parents ??
