Six teens charged over rock throwing attack

22/07/2008 8:48:00 AM.  | Laura Tunstall
Police have charged six teenagers over a rock-throwing attack in Sydney's west.

Police were called to the M4 at Colyton by a truck driver around five o'clock yesterday afternoon.

The 49-year-old's white tabletop truck had been damaged by rocks thrown by a group of teenagers standing beside the road.

Fortunately he wasn't injured - the truck has minor panel damage.

Officers then searched the area - finding six male teenagers aged 14 and 15.

They've been charged with intentionally throwing an object at a vehicle and have been bailed to face court next month.

Police say they hope the arrests act as a warning to others.

I'm sure the police AND the public hope these young buggers get more than conferencing when they finally appear in court. If the penalty is heavy enough there's a good chance they won't reoffend. That's why I don't believe in the stupid notion that "deal lightly for a first offence". The first offence should be treated with severity so there won't BE a second one.

This crime needs to be treated as attempted murder, and where it involves a minor, the parent or guardian should also be charged. Kids will be kids, but they should not get away with murder.

Graeme, are you saying that as a kid you NEVER did anything stupid? If you did do you really believe your parents should be held responsible for it? Mate it's one thing to angry with the knot the system haas made for itself in not dealing properly with Juvenile crimes but to want to prosecute someone who most likely has as much chance of preventing it as you or I is rather over the top. I was a horrid child, I'd hate to think my parents should've paid for my uncontrolability.

Not me. I would've wanted your parents to be charged and held accountable for bring such a little criminal into the world. I agree with Graeme on this one. That accountability should take the form of monies paid for criminal conduct of their children. You take a grand away from a parent or parents and you will get their attention in spades on what society expects of them in the parenting department.
