Greg Norman's impressive run to a third-place finish in the British Open at age 53 has brought the Australian star an invitation to next month's PGA Championship.
Organisers of the year's final major gold championship extended the chance to Norman after his heroics at Royal Birkdale, leading with nine holes to play before Ireland's Padraig Harrington won his second British Open title in a row.
Norman, playing the Senior British Open this week at Troon, expects to make a decision about playing here at the PGA by Thursday.
He already is planning to play in next week's US Senior Championship at Colorado Springs, Colorado.
"It is a great honour to be thought of in that regard but that would be four weeks in a row and I woke up a little stiff this morning," Norman said.
Norman, who was trying to become the oldest champion in major golf history, leaped 480 spots to 166th in the world golf rankings even though he no longer plays on a full-time basis.
"I have had multiple surgeries and those do start to show up when I hit a lot of golf balls and I have to be careful, although fitness has never been a problem with me," Norman said.
"I was one of the first ones to adopt a strong fitness regime and I actually putted very well the whole week at Birkdale, and I think that was because of my stamina and inner core strength."
