Thorpie to expand TV career

24/07/2008 9:53:00 AM.  | AAP

With swimming well and truly behind him, Ian Thorpe is keen to expand his TV career over the coming year.

The five-time Olympic champion, who has just finished a documentary for The History Channel about Australian swimming, is in talks with Foxtel about fronting a number of lifestyle programs.

He'll also appear in next year's Australia's Next Top Model final.

"I love making television," Thorpe said.

"There's a little bit of magic in it and I like that.

With his TV career now his priority, Thorpe said he has no regrets about retiring from swimming more than a year and a half ago.

Thorpe will spend two weeks in Beijing during the Olympic Games next month.

He will go to events as part of his sponsorship duties and meet face to face with the Australian swim team.
