Players' union boss Paul Marsh has warned many of the world's best cricketers won't play in September's Champions Trophy after the International Cricket Council decided against shifting the event from Pakistan.
The ICC on Thursday confirmed Pakistan would host the eight-team tournament despite players from Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa all voicing concerns about safety in the strife-torn country.
Marsh, the Australian Cricketers' Association chief executive, said the ACA was disappointed with the decision.
"Based on the independent information and advice received, we maintain that the risks are simply too great for the ACA to recommend that our players tour Pakistan at this time," Marsh said in a statement.
"We would expect Cricket Australia to adopt the same position.
"The ICC Champions Trophy is one of crickets premier events.
"If it continues in Pakistan at this volatile time unfortunately many of the world's best players won't participate, which is not a good outcome for cricket.
"The ACA continues to have serious concerns with our players touring Pakistan for the Champions Trophy and we are disappointed with the ICC's decision."
