Controversial AFL commentator Sam Newman is in more hot water after making an dubious comment on the AFL’s Footy Show last night.
After a clip was shown of Tasmanian MP Paula Wriedt, Newman made one of his trademark off-colour jokes.
“We couldn’t get her on, could we?” Newman said after watching vision of the MP.
“Worthy of coming on, her.”
Newman was immediately admonished by Footy Show host James Brayshaw.
“Sam you cannot say that,” Brayshaw said.
“It’s a disgraceful thing to say, Sam, and don’t do it again.”
Newman defended his choice of wording on the show, saying he “didn't mean it that way”, but his co-hosts were clearly unimpressed with the comment.
In May this year Newman was suspended from the Footy Show and told to undergo counseling.
Nine publicity said this morning that the comment was a misunderstanding and that Newman was simply suggesting Ms Wriedt appeared on the show.
