The TWU has not ruled out delivery bans on Woolworths and Coles if its members do not get safe rates from the retail giants.
Hundreds of truckies rallied outside Woolies at Rosehill today, demanding appropriate fuel levies to help them absorb petrol costs.
But Andrew Hall from Woolworths says it has been increasing its fuel levies in all its transport contracts, which should mean more money for drivers.
"We've been paying more for our transport and we have contacted our transport providers directly in the last few weeks and we've asked them to tell us the transport levies, the fuel levies that they charging us, are being passed on to their drivers."
Earlier, TWU boss Tony Sheldon says work bans are a possibility.
"If you imagine an action that can be taken, then we'll be considering taking that action over the coming weeks."
"We are very clear in the view that we need to escalate the pressure on Woolworths and Coles to make sure that the carnage on our roads is decreased."
Mr Sheldon says more truck drivers will die on the roads, if they can't be guaranteed safe pay rates through retail giants like Woolworths and Coles.
Up to 500 truckies marched on Woolworths at Rosehill today, claiming they have to compromise on safety because of poor haulage returns.
The action comes after news a woman was killed and her son left fighting for life after their car was crushed in a collision with a truck in Brisbane today.
The 47-year-old mother of four was taken to Princess Alexndra Hospital after the empty tipper truck rolled onto the family car.
Queensland police said she died shortly before midday. Her 13-year-old son remains in a critical condition.
