Independent Rob Oakeshot shakes up Lyne by-election mix

Popular New South Wales Independent MP Rob Oakeshott has announced he will contest the federal seat of Lyne, now held by the Nationals.

Mr Oakeshott is the state MP for Port Macquarie, which lies within the federal electorate.

A by-election for Lyne is necessary after the retirement of former deputy prime minister and Nationals leader Mark Vaile.

The Nationals have named former Port Macquarie mayor Rob Drew as their candidate for the seat.

Lyne by-election: National/"independent" personalities, their personal track record on specific local issues and theircareers. What is missed in all of this that country people and farmers have no major party representing their interest at the federal level. What about the farmers? How about some resouces, people, industry development in country areas? The Nats have failed, ALP cant be bothered, and the greens don't give a cow's carbon emission about farmers. What have the Nationals ever done for the bush and for farmers? And what have the Nationals done for rural workers?
