English Premier League giants Chelsea have confirmed they had made a bid for Real Madrid's Brazilian striker Robinho.

Champions League runners-up Chelsea have already signed Jose Bosingwa and Deco this pre-season, and have now announced they have made Real an offer for the talented Brazilian.

It is believed Chelsea have offered around STG20 million ($A42.81 million) for Robinho.

"Further to media reports, Chelsea Football Club can confirm we have made an offer to Real Madrid today for the transfer of Robinho," a statement on the club's website read.

The 24-year-old, who joined Real Madrid from Santos in 2005, has been capped 50 times for Brazil.
