Australians in Beijing are being assured there’s no cause for alarm after the murder of an American man at a popular tourist attraction.
Todd Bachman, a relative of a US Olympic volleyball coach, was stabbed to death at the Drum Tower monument.
His wife and a tour guide were also attacked, suffering serious injuries.
Prime minister Kevin Rudd said it was an isolated incident and not indicative of an anit-western sentiment in china.
“This is a very large city of 12 million people, in my experience of this city over the years foreigners have always been made to feel welcome and safe,” Mr Rudd said.
