Pope Benedict the 16th has warmly thanked Australia for the welcome it gave him during World Youth Day in Sydney last month.
The Pope has written a message to Governor-General Michael expressing his deep gratitude for the affectionate reception he received.
Pope Benedict says he was honoured by the official welcoming ceremony at Government House and most appreciative of the personal welcome the Governor-General extended to him at Admiralty House.
He's also thanked the various civil and military authorities and Sydney residents, who he says helped to ensure the warm welcome.
