CCTV footage from a bank in Brussels is being investigated, after a guard reported he saw a little girl resembling missing toddler Madeleine McCann, with a woman who appeared to be North African or Arabic.
The unlikely pair sparked suspicion when the guard overheard the little blonde girl ask the woman "Can we go back now?"
The footage shows the woman, wearing a head scarf, dressed in black and white, escorting a little girl dressed in a white and pink jumper, tartan skirt and beige boots.
They are walking past the FBC bank in the Brussels district of Molenbeek.
The images, which emerged on the weekend, are said to be “potentially very significant," according to Clarence Mitchell, the spokesman for Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry.
Madeleine was four when she disappeared from her parents' holiday apartment in Portugal in May 2007.
Portuguese police, who were inexperienced in missing persons cases, handed over the police files last month.
Since then a variety of new information has emerged from the mammoth files, including up to five apparent sightings, and information claiming Maddie was abducted by a paedophile ring.
