Police have arrested more than 200 Tibetan exiles outside the Chinese embassy building in Nepal’s capital city today, as the groups of mostly Buddhist monks, nuns and youths protested a Chinese crackdown on their country.
Six buses of Tibetans arrived at the embassy in Kathmandu, where protests have occurred almost daily since March.
"Fifty-eight women and 145 men were arrested for trying to protest in a restricted zone," police officer Navaratna Poudel told reporters.
Pro-Tibet protests have been banned in Nepal.
Protesters had unsuccessfully tried to break through a police blockade outside the embassy building, instead being bundled into waiting police vans.
They were due to be released without charge later today.
