The latest round of Melbourne-Sydney rivalry has begun, with the Harbour City securing a coveted spot on the newly-released International Monopoly board.
Sydney sits alongside New York and London on the red strip, which traditionally contains Trafalgar Square, Fleet St and The Strand.
NSW Premier Morris Iemma says it's where the city belongs.
"Eat your heart out Melbourne... nowhere to be found," he said at the board game launch in Sydney.
“[We're] up there with New York and London, and how appropriate because that’s the company that we’re in and they’re the cities that we compete against.
“[It’] not the Melbournes and it’s not the Brisbanes, it’s the global cities – London, New York, Paris – and we’re in very good company.”
Voting was conducted in 58 countries earlier this year for Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition.
More than five million votes were cast during the poll.
The World Edition will include some changes to the traditional Monopoly, including houses and hotels reflecting styles and icons from around the world, and a new currency.
The game is due to be released on August 26.
