A menacing monkey has narrowly escaped scores of net wielding policemen, after trying to hitch a ride with Tokyo train commuters.
Yesterday morning, a half-metre long wild monkey was seen darting around Shibuya Station, climbing pillars, and frightening peak hour commuters.
It then perched itself on top of the departure board, jumping back and forth for a while, before dozing off for a couple of hours.
Crowds of commuters gathered around to witness the unusual spectacle, while around 30 policemen, armed with nets attempted to catch him.
The standoff ended with the monkey leaping from its perch, disappearing into the urban entertainment district.
Japanese monkeys, which are native to the area, occasionally make appearances in rural parts of Japan.
They cause chaos by swiping food from grocery stalls, destroying crops, and occasionally biting humans.
