It seems Prime Minister Kevin Rudd may be in need of a geography lesson.
The prime minister has been busy talking up his education revolution in recent days, unveiling a new plan to ensure schools lift their performance.
But tonight, while discussing the economy, he seemed unaware of a basic fact that many school children would likely know - that Australia is an island and is often referred to as an island continent.
"Australia is not an island," Mr Rudd said tonight on ABC television.
He was, of course, suggesting Australia was facing many of the same economic challenges confronting other countries.
"We're going through difficult economic times," the prime minister went on to say.
