Stars light up Sydney fashion launch

28/08/2008 9:22:00 PM.  |
Models have abseilled down a vertical catwalk showing off creations by some of Australia's leading designers to kick off a month-long celebration of glamour.

Australian style queens Jennifer Hawkins and Lara Bingle were joined by Hollywood star Eva Mendes to launch 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty at Sydney's Inter-Continental Hotel tonight.

Mendes said she spent the day stocking up on local designs.

"I was just shopping today on Oxford Street," said the stunning actress wearing a black ruffled gown with gold beading.

"I'm here with a smile because I love it."

Former Miss Universe Hawkins said she was looking forward to "letting her hair down" after launching her swimwear range, Cozi, today.

She gave her fashion tips for looking good during the summer months.

"There are lots of florals and frills and bright yellow," Hawkins told AAP.

"So I'm really looking forward to getting colour into my wardrobe."

While Hawkins went against her own advice by wearing neutral tones, many of the local celebrities walking the red carpet at the ACP Magazines event heeded it.

Ruffles and frills and bright orange and purple dominated the carpet.

As part of the festival there will be a range of fashion-related events including a stiletto race in Sydney.
