The Dalai Lama has been admitted to hospital in India with stomach pains, a day after the spiritual leader’s officer said he was suffering from severe exhaustion.
The 73-year-old has been on a gruelling tour to raise awareness of his country’s occupation by China to coincide with Beijing Olympic Games.
But the Dalai Lama’s office insist his condition isn’t serious.
"There is nothing major to feel concerned about," his personal secretary Tenzin Taklha told AFP in the Indian hill town of Dharamshala, where the Tibetan government-in-exile is based.
"But he has been admitted to the Lilivati Hospital in Mumbai because he was feeling some discomfort in his abdomen.
"The Dalai Lama will be examined by doctors tomorrow.”
It’s not the first time the Tibetan leader has suffered from severe stomach pains.
In 2002 he was admitted to hospital with the condition and was treated with antibiotics.
