The week at LIVENEWS.com.au

It seems Olympic Golden girl Stephanie Rice has more than just raw unadulterated talent in the pool, she’s also a headline writers dream.

The massive amount of coverage the 20-year-old received may have been due in large part to the creative ways her last name can be incorporated into the title of stories written about her!

“Rice cooking on US gossip sites”, “Rice separates from Phillips?”,“Steamy Rice in FHM spread”. It was the gift that kept on giving.

AC/DC fans certainly got a big gift when the Aussie rockers released their first song in eight years, “Rock n’ Roll Train”, which rocked the airwaves this week.

Surprising everyone, it was an epic 3-part concept suite with multi-timbral vocal-synth parts, Oboe and Bazouski flourishes, climaxing with a baroque-esqe Mandolin solo.

Only kidding - it was the same three guitar chords they’ve used for 35 years.

While AC/DC was giving gifts, Guns n Roses were punishing their fans. After posting nine songs supposedly from their 17-years-in-the-making Chinese Democracy album, blogger Kevin Cogill was arrested this week following charges pressed by the Recording Industry Association Of America.

So much of a fuss about a bunch of songs that suck harder than a Godfrey’s three-year guarantee.

Speaking of hard suckers, according to reports this week Australians who engage in kinky sex practices like bondage and discipline are not damaged or dangerous and in many cases are “happier” than those who engage in normal sex.

However, those who filed the reports were in fact beaten into submission to make them – and liked it.

And when it comes to being beaten, Australia took a walloping by Britian not only in the Beijing Olympic tally, but also in the press. Newspaper The Sun mocked the Australian team with a motor-billboard featuring the phrase “Where the bloody hell were you?”

The answer was clear: at the dentist.

But it wasn’t just the Brits who were long in the tooth - this week Michael Jackson celebrated his 50th birthday. Reflecting on his advancing age, the pop superstar was seen on a giant merry go round eating fairy floss, and talking to media after gulping vast quantities of helium.

Michael wasn’t the only one to be inflated – This week Pamela Anderson came back to Australian shores to promote her new reality series.

During a media conference a fan requested she sign his underpants, and surprised the Baywatch star by producing a chicken leg from his drawers.

Shocked by the stunt, the strict vegetarian later said it would have been perfectly acceptable if he whipped out some Fakon from his duds.

While that comment about Godfreys guarantee is quite hillarious, I think you should go and listen to your beloved Justin Timberlake, as your taste in music speaks for itself.

I'm a massive fan of Appetite For Destruction, one of the greatest rock albums ever! The new stuff sounds like a horrible version of Nickelback, sung by Axl Rose.

the funniest bit about pammie's visit was when she said "i told you i would bring the kids back for summer". reminds me of another song, goes something like this, "if i only had a brain...". she does it to herself. we dont even have to try. As for the journalist that pulled the drumstick out of his pants, what was the go with that? what is his problem? does he work for fairfax? or did he? i think the same song applies.
