A Zimbabwean man has been charged with attempting to smuggle heroin internally on a flight from South Africa to Perth, authorities say.
Australian Customs and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the 45-year-old arrived at Perth International Airport on Wednesday.
While questioning the man, Customs officers became suspicious that he may be concealing drugs internally.
A hospital x-ray indicated the man was carrying a number of foreign objects in his stomach.
The AFP alleged the man passed 91 pellets containing approximately 800g of a powder believed to be heroin.
He was charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug.
If convicted, the offence carries up to 25 years in jail and/or a maximum fine of $550,000.
