The Coalition is facing renewed pressure to pass budget legislation as the Senate prepares today to debate a hike in the luxury car tax.
The opposition used its numbers in the old Senate to delay key budget bills worth about $6 billion in revenue and savings.
Labor MPs have declared the tactics irresponsible, saying the federal government's first budget must be passed in full.
"We need to make sure we get our budget through the Senate," Queensland Labor MP Jim Turnour told reporters.
"I'm really out here this morning calling on the opposition to do what's right for the Australian economy.
"Go into the Senate this week and pass our budget measures."
Labor backbencher Nick Champion rejects assertions the opposition is blocking legislation - such as a hike in the luxury car tax - because it believed in lower taxes.
"After 11 years of talking about responsible economic management they are now taking one short decision after another because they can't make a decision," Mr Champion said.
Last year's election result gave Labor a mandate, despite having a minority in the Senate, Mr Turnour said.
"What the opposition needs to recognise is that they're operating very irresponsibly in the way that they're dealing with matters in the Senate.
"The Australian people in my electorate are going to really condemn if they fail to pass this budget."
