Drivers get online access to speed camera footage

3/09/2008 8:12:00 AM.  | Joel Labi
Drivers snapped by speeding or red light cameras will be now be able to download photos online to see if they're in the wrong.

The images will be available for free on the state debt recovery website. Originally motorists would have to write in for a request.

Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal says it will be easier for drivers to contest fines if they've been unfairly caught, especially if someone else was at at the wheel.

"I think that motorists can view, online at no cost, photos of the offences," Mr Roozendaal said.

"If they feel that they feel that they've been unfairly treated they should challenge those infringements."

"But in many cases they'll realise the offence has occured, where it occured and it may help them identify who was driving if they weren't driving."
