Shopping centre bans hoodies and hats

5/09/2008 10:29:00 AM.  | Rachael Stevens
A north coast shopping centre has banned hooded sweatshirts and hats, claiming they are being used by young criminals to hide from security cameras.

Tweed City council says hoodies will be banned after 6pm on Thursdays, and follows complaints from security guards.

Youths who regularly visit the mall are said to know where security cameras are placed, and are hiding behind their clothing when they pass them.

Police say the shopping centre is within their rights to enforce the ban – service stations already have a similar rule.
