Palin says US victory is within sights

Republican vice presidential contender Sarah Palin said a US victory in Iraq is within sight.

She believes last year’s influx of American troops in Iraq have helped calm the situation down and may ultimately be a success.

John McCain strongly supported the surge of troops sent to Iraq last year and also had the support of Mrs Palin.

“He refused to break faith with the troops in Iraq who have now brought victory within sight,” Mrs Palin said.

Her own son will be sent to the conflict ridden area next week.

The Alaskan governor attacked rival, Barack Obama, saying that he would not be responsible for keeping the nation safe and the troops would not have been so successful if Senator Obama had his way.

According to Mrs Palin, Congress would have cut funding needed to send last year’s surge of troops and a victory would not be within sight.

Barack Obama has opposed the war from day one and is committed to begin withdrawing troops with he is inaugurated as president in January.
