Rees said yes to cannabis?

6/09/2008 2:37:00 PM.  | AAP
Former garbo turned NSW premier Nathan Rees admits he smoked marijuana as a young bloke, but says it was never a habit.

In his first full day as leader of NSW, the 40-year-old was asked if he had smoked cannabis.

"Yes," said Mr Rees.

"Many years ago. It has never become a habit or anything like that."

He also denied ever having ever smelt marijuana on former Aboriginal affairs minister Milton Orkopoulos, his former boss.

Orkopoulos was sentenced in May this year to 14 years in jail for child sex and drug offences.

Mr Rees had said yesterday that like Orkopoulos' wife and family, he knew nothing of the former MP's secret life.

Mr Rees took over yesterday from Morris Iemma, who quit politics after his faction balked at his planned cabinet reshuffle.

He only smoked cannabis -- that is all he is owning up to. "And the Spin Goes On".

How can you possibly make an inference such as this, without seemingly anything in support, and simultaneously complain about spin. Get real. Put up or shut up.

Why couldn't he smell dope on Orkopolous? Is that because he is desensitized from use?

Orkopolous had a secret life remember. those in high place know how to hide things. he would not walk out smelling of pot. how many of you smell pot on your coworkers. come on get real. do you know everything that your coworkers get up too. i am not sticking up for the garbo, but you have to face reality here. i had guys at work who did drugs, i worked one on one with them. how am i supposed to guess which ones are doing it without them being off their faces when they turn up for work

Mick - You must be very naive to think that he only smoked pot and didn't try anything else. Are you trying to tell us that drugs are not being used ad nauseum by this age group! Are you hiding under a mushroom or something? Nothing is going to change except this group are leftist unionist-driven individuals and it will be worse. There will be more waste of money, more lies and more spin.

Pardon, but your bias is showing. If you make unfounded unsupported inferences, please do not assume that others share your biases or must be somehow naive to question you. You cannot base your entire argument on the fact that this person is from a certain age group or a political group you dislike. Yours is the only visible spin. I repeat, put up or shut up.
